Recycle

In Singapore, more than 73,500 tonnes of glass waste was generated in 2013 with a recycling rate of 20%. Glass waste is usually collected through recycling programs with glass waste sorted and exported overseas for recycling due to the lack of glass recycling plants in Singapore.

Refind believes that we can do our part in this through the following ways:

  • Recycling glass to make new bottles and jars to reduce energy needed in the furnace which adds up to a total of more than 315kg of CO2 per tonne of glass;
  • Reducing more than 1.2 tonnes of waste per tonne of recycled glass by renewing them into objects of art or everyday items;
  • Refining the end purpose of glass waste by reducing the amount of waste glass that needs to be land-filled. Although glass is inert and not directly hazardous to the environment, it will remain in the landfills indefinitely.
